Husky Highlights
April 2024
A Note from the Principal's Desk
This month we have some very exciting events! We have started track practice and our Highlands Art Auction is this month! During the week leading up to the Art Auction, we will have an Art Walk (sneak peek) and end the week with the Auction at JUMP. We are looking forward to an evening of fun!
Students are working hard and have started state testing. To close out April, we have our 1st and 2nd grade students putting on a musical performance. They will have the dress rehearsal for staff and students and perform for parents on the last Friday of the month!
Mrs. Ochoa welcomed a baby girl on March 15th! She is loving every minute being with her family and snuggling baby Mila. She will be out of the office until mid May. Please contact the Interim Principal, Emily Wells, at Emily.Wells@boiseschools.org with any questions or concerns.

Scooters & Bikes
As the weather starts to get nicer, we anticipate our students riding their bikes and electric scooters. We will continue to remind students about expectations with these (no riding on school grounds, must walk the vehicle until off of school property), but we would really appreciate parents talking with students about scooter and bike safety. We have many students zoom into groups of parents and students walking to and from school and students riding at unsafe speeds, darting in the street and into groups on the sidewalks. Please consider talking with your students about appropriate use if they plan on getting to and from school with either mode of transportation.

Highlands Learner Dispositions
We appreciate your support and involvement in our students' education. As we continue developing a responsive culture of learning in our building and community, we continue to focus on our Highlands Learner Dispositions. This equips our students with academic language and helps foster student agency and efficacy. These are traits that "good learners" use to help them grapple with a concept and achieve understanding.
Please see this link to view and discuss our Learner Dispositions with your students.
The Learning Pit
As we encourage students to grapple with concepts, we provide them with a visual to see this journey. The Learning Pit helps students to identify tools, Learner Dispositions, and resources they can use to "get out of the pit." The Learning Pit encourages students to engage in challenging tasks, interact with others, and boost their resilience, determination, and curiosity. Through this journey in the pit, students develop a sense of self-efficacy and become creative, collaborative thinkers.

Camp Invetion
Hello Boise Schools Families,
I am so excited that Sage International, Liberty Elementary, Hidden Springs Elementary, and White Pine Elementary will be hosting Camp Invention this summer, and wanted to make sure that you were aware that our program will be offered four times between July 8 - August 2nd! During this year’s ALL-NEW program, ILLUMINATE, campers will:
Be invited to IN THE GAME TM , where athletics, design, invention, and business come together for the win! Participants will design their unique sports ball and build a customized, light-up ball game.
Uncover the science of light through illuminating inventions and glowing animals. In LET’S
GLOW TM , they make a one-on-a-kind Glow Box, experimenting with different forms of light while customizing their design.
Embark on an epic global operation in HYDRODROP TM to help solve water challenges around the world! They learn about the role water plays for people and the planet, then customize robotic lab-on-wheels to assist in their exploration.
Star as contestants on a game show where they mold, shape, and transform their ideas into
amazing inventions in PROTOTYPING STUDIO TM . While tapping into their imaginations and using a DIY toolbox, they discover that invention can happen in any place at any time!
Join us and give your young innovator an unforgettable adventure! Here are our program details:
Sage International. July 8 - 12. 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Liberty Elementary. July 15 - 19 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM.
